QUICK STATISTICS ON HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND FORCED LABOR
  • An estimated 27.6 million people were living in forced labour in 2021 — about 1 in every 300 people worldwide (ILO, Global Estimates of Forced Labour 2021).
  • Forced labor generates roughly US$236 billion in illegal profits annually (ILO, 2021).
  • Nearly 75,000 trafficking victims were detected and reported to authorities in 2022 (UNODC Global Report on Trafficking in Persons, 2024).
  • Around 42% of detected trafficking victims were exploited for forced labor (UNODC, 2024).
  • About 1 in 5 trafficking victims are children globally (UNODC; proportion varies widely by region).
